Adolescent Counseling:
Adolescence is a complicated time, characterized by the uncertainty caused by exploring independence, growth spurts in brain development and peer pressure. Many parents and their teens are faced with issues that they are unsure how to handle and some stumble as they grow. During this high risk time in development, many adolescents and their families benefit from counseling. My goal is to provide adolescents with a safe and dependable environment to increase their understanding of their internal experiences it’s connected to their choices, behaviors and relationships, so that they can be more mindful  to identify what is not working in their lives and with support, can develop new strategies for addressing the problem.

Integrated Substance Abuse Counseling:
Moving from addiction to recovery is complex, taxing and absolutely possible! It is possible through establishing and maintaining motivation to change; coping with cravings; developing relapse prevention skills; improving relationships; achieving a balanced life-style and finding meaning in life. While this approach is compatible that of a 12-step program, it is also intentionally different. A person does not need to be ready for abstinence to benefit from exploring their relationship with drugs and alcohol.

As a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor, I am able to provide the type of treatment required by Impaired Driver Rehabilitation Program (Formerly Project CRASH). It is important to note that in order for counseling to be approved by the state, a person needs to be at “maximum benefit” from services and no longer demonstrate problems related to his/her substances abuse. Together we will develop a treatment plan, so that you will know from the start the changes that demonstrate such progress. It is normal for this process to take longer than the “minimum requirements” articulated by IDR. For more information regarding IRD: http://healthvermont.gov/adap/treatment/crash.aspx

Women’s Health Counseling:
With a feminist and person-centered approach, counseling offers support and insight into a woman’s experience, seeing that person’s self-determination and innate strength as integral to the therapeutic work and relationship. While developing insight and the skills to make change, we also pay attention to the impact of various forms of gender oppression, racism, classism and homophobia. Counselings is effective for a range of presenting issues including depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, sexual assault, domestic violence, relationships, denter, sexuality, infertility, perinatal loss, and parenting.
